Helping, Today, to Educate Tomorrow’s Preservation Leaders

The 9th Baron Historical Preservation Scholarship will be awarded annually to a deserving student, from MacDuff or Banff, who plans on studying Scottish history, historic preservation, or a related field.

This Scholarship provides £2,500 to assist with educational expenses - such as books, research materials, accommodation, or other academic costs - as the recipient embarks on their university journey.
How to Apply

Applicants are invited to submit an essay (500-1000 words) addressing the following:
1. The importance of historical preservation to your personal and academic goals.

2. Your specific areas of study and intended research focus.

3. How you envision applying your education to future preservation efforts within Scotland

References from mentors or educators who support the student's efforts are encouraged and may be submitted alongside the essay.

Selection Process

To ensure an impartial and merit-based evaluation, all applications are reviewed and recipients are selected by an independent comittee of Banff Academy Faculty. The committee evaluates submissions based on academic potential, alignment with the scholarship's preservation focus, and the strength of the applicant's stated commitment to the field.

Award Terms

This Scholarship is intended to recognize excellence in the field of preservation. Consequently, if no submissions are received that meet the established criteria for academic and preservation focused rigor, the scholarship will not be awarded for that academic year. In such instances, the designated funds remain in the scholarship fund for future deployment.
